Study Abroad in LEO - Work in Progress
SAIL is a speculative proposal for a study abroad program in space for college students. A dedicated habitat module supports up to four students and two faculty members. Intended to be attached to a larger space station or a power and propulsion element, the module otherwise serves as a fully self-contained habitat. The 8-meter diameter cylinder contains a laboratory, crew quarters, lavatory and hygiene spaces, and a storage and equipment bay.
Window seats and added wall depth create small areas of refuge to appreciate views of Earth, while still sharing those views with the rest of the cabin.
